Annual Ending Hunger Breakfast Highlights Community Impact and Kicks Off 2026 Effort

Augusta, ME — Maine State Credit Union brought together community partners, local hunger organizations, and supporters on March 30 at the Augusta Civic Center to celebrate a shared commitment to fighting hunger across Maine.

During its annual Ending Hunger Breakfast, the credit union distributed more than $111,000 funds raised throughout 2025, to local food banks and pantries across the state. Every dollar was contributed by members, employees, and the community, and every dollar will stay in Maine to support families and individuals facing food insecurity.

“This is what community looks like,” said Stephen Wallace. “These funds represent people showing up for each other—neighbors helping neighbors in a very real way.”

Representatives from participating hunger relief organizations were on hand to receive funding and share how these contributions will directly support their work—helping stock shelves, expand services, and ensure more families have access to meals.

The need remains significant. Across Maine, 12.9% of households experience food insecurity, underscoring the importance of continued, community-driven support.

“This isn’t just about today,” Wallace added. “It’s about continuing the work—together.”

The Ending Hunger Breakfast not only marked the impact of the past year but also set the stage for what’s ahead. Maine State Credit Union will officially kick off its 2026 hunger relief effort on April 25 with the FeedMe 5K: Walk to End Hunger, followed by additional initiatives throughout the year, including the Treats & Eats event in its branches and community partnerships such as Fill the Strand in Rockland, benefiting AIO Food & Energy Assistance in January.

Together, these efforts reflect a simple but powerful idea: it starts with a step—and grows through community.

Maine State Credit Union encourages members and the broader community to get involved in this year’s effort—by walking, donating, or supporting local hunger organizations throughout Maine.
