Augusta, Maine – Maine State Credit Union is pleased to announce the appointment of Rebecca “Becca” Gildred to its Board of Directors, bringing extensive nonprofit leadership experience and a longstanding commitment to community well-being across Midcoast Maine.
Gildred currently serves as Executive Director of United Midcoast Charities, where she leads efforts to strengthen nonprofit organizations throughout Knox and Waldo Counties working in food access, housing stability, health, and economic security. She brings more than a decade of senior nonprofit development and leadership experience, along with an additional 15 years in publishing and marketing.
Her professional background includes leading high-impact initiatives that have strengthened nonprofit capacity, expanded philanthropic investment, and increased community engagement across the Midcoast. Notably, Gildred guided the successful rebrand of the Knox County Homeless Coalition to Homeworthy, positioning the organization for long-term growth and deeper community connection.
Gildred holds a Bachelor of Science in Education with dual concentrations in Biology and Psychology from the University of Vermont, where she was recognized as a Vermont Scholar. She has also completed advanced professional training in marketing strategy at the University of Southern New Hampshire and leadership development at the Yale School of Management.
She was drawn to Maine State Credit Union’s cooperative model, people-before-profit philosophy, and its role in strengthening long-term financial stability and access for Maine communities. Through her board service, Gildred brings a strategic, systems-level perspective, shaped by years of working with Maine businesses and nonprofits.
In addition to her professional work, Gildred serves on the board of Five Town Little League and is an active volunteer coach, supporting youth development and community engagement. A longtime Midcoast resident, she lives in Rockport with her family and remains deeply involved in the community through nonprofit leadership and youth athletics.
