Employees Raise Over $80,000 to End Hunger in Local Communities

Check with $80,000 for ending hunger

Augusta, Maine – March 21, 2017 – Today, Maine State Credit Union employees presented checks totaling over $82,000 to local food pantries and shelters located in Kennebec and Somerset counties to help put an end to hunger. Funds are raised throughout the year through events that include a 5k run/walk, bake sales and a live auction.

“The employees at Maine State Credit Union are passionate about putting an end to hunger in Maine,” said Mark Young, senior vice president and chief operating officer at Maine State Credit Union. We’ve gone from raising $2,800 in our first year of fundraising to raising over $80,000 in 2016. This isn’t a corporate donation, every penny is raised by employee coordinated events and 100% of the proceeds go directly to ending hunger organizations in our community.”

The annual ending hunger campaign is sponsored by the Maine Credit Union League. Maine State Credit Union has been the top fundraiser for the past several years and over the past 10-years raised over $500,000 for this cause.

“I’m excited about the amount we raised this year,” said Stacey Dow, coordinator of the ending hunger campaign for Maine State Credit Union. “This means that we can provide over 328,000 meals to the people of Kennebec and Somerset counties. Working first hand with many of the food banks and shelters, I know that this means a lot and helps a lot of families.”

Maine State Credit Union is holding their first big fundraiser on April 29, 2017, and everyone is welcome to participate. It is the Feed ME 5k walk/run on the Kennebec River Rail Trail, starting at Capitol Park. For more information and to register for the event visit www.MaineStateCreditUnion.org/5kwalkrun.
