Megan Hughes

Assistant Branch Manager, Eastside Branch

December's Employee Spotlight is Megan Hughes, a lifelong Mainer who is the Assistant Branch Manager at our Eastside Branch.

Tell us about yourself?

I am a lifelong Mainer. I was born in Waterville and am the youngest of three children. Growing up, I lived in many different towns throughout Maine and saw firsthand the beauty of our state. I graduated from Erskine Academy and started working for Maine State Credit Union. I live in the Augusta area with my husband, two sons, our dog and kitten.

What brought you to Maine State Credit Union?

Tanya Mann and I worked together part-time at a local card shop while I was still in high school. After graduation, I was looking for a full time job and Tanya suggested applying to Maine State Credit Union. She always spoke highly of MSCU and thought the organization would be an ideal fit for me. I sent in my resume and was soon hired as a teller at our Eastside Branch. 16 years later and I still love working at MSCU!

What has been your MSCU journey?

I’ve been fortunate to hold many different roles, all at the Eastside Branch. I started as a Teller and before long became a Teller II, taking more responsibilities as a teller team leader. My role expanded soon after to Financial Services Representative II. A couple years ago, I was proud to be promoted to Assistant Branch Manager. I love being at the Eastside branch and am so glad to build my career here.

How would you describe your Eastside team?

The Eastside team are such warm and caring people! Every day we see members smiling and laughing. We take great pride in our work and helping people. The team is also very supportive of each other. I feel very fortunate to work every day with such wonderful individuals.

What do you enjoy about working with our members?

Being able to create bonds and build lasting relationships. As Eastside is a small branch, we see the same people every week and this consistency makes it easier to get to know them. I enjoy it when members stop in my office with financial questions or for a friendly chat and a quick hello. Having cordial conversations with members and helping them with their finances is amazing to experience.

What is something that makes you smile?

My kids make me smile every day. They have a kindness and genuinely positive outlook in life. I have such pride with the way they are growing up. They amaze me all the time!
