ATM Cards & VISA® Debit Cards

Maine State CU ATM and VISA® Debit Cards allow members access to surcharge-free cash at over 130 ATMs across the state. When you use your Maine State CU CU24™ card at any SURF® Network ATM, you will not be charged any out of network fees by either Maine State CU or the other credit union. In addition to surcharge-free cash, the Maine State CU VISA® Debit Card offers even more convenience and flexibility. The VISA® Debit Card is not a traditional credit card, it's a debit card. A debit card can be used as an ATM card, AND it can also be used wherever VISA® Credit Cards are accepted.

Here's how the VISA® Debit Card works:

• When used as an ATM card, you can get surcharge-free cash at any SURF® network ATM by utilizing your PIN (personal identification number). Funds can be deducted from any Maine State CU account with ATM access.
• Certain locations, such as gas stations and grocery stores, allow debit transactions for purchases. To use the Maine State CU  VISA® Debit Card, you will simply need to follow the directions at the check out, but typically the transaction is as easy as sliding your card through the machine and entering your PIN. The information travels through a secure network and the sale amount is deducted from your checking account.
• You can use the card at any merchant that accepts VISA® Credit Cards (even if they don't accept checks or debit transactions). Using the  VISA® Debit Card in a signature-based transaction is similar to using a credit card. At check out, present your card to the retailer and it will be run through the VISA® network. You will be presented with a receipt for your signature, and the transaction is complete! Just as with the debit transaction, the amount of sale will be deducted directly from your checking account. There is no monthly bill to pay and no interest charged on the transaction.

The Maine State CU VISA® Debit Card also offers the following advantages:

• You save time by using your VISA® Debit Card because it eliminates the hassle of writing checks (and the expense of buying checks).
• You have more flexibility, since the VISA® Debit Card is accepted anywhere VISA® Credit Cards are accepted - so you can use the card at places that don't accept checks.
• You can just carry one card, since the VISA® Debit Card is also your ATM card.
• You get the security of full VISA® charge-back rights when you utilize the VISA® Debit Card in a signature-based transaction.
